Parent Visas, Geelong, AustraliaOnce settled in Australia people often wish to bring their parents here to live so they can take care of them. There are six visa classes under the parent category:

1. Parent (migrant)
2. Aged parent (residence)
3. Contributory parent (migrant)
4. Contributory parent (temporary)
5. Contributory aged parent (residence)
6. Contributory aged parent (temporary)
Choosing the right one depends on timeframe, costs, age and other factors.
To be eligible to sponsor a parent the Balance of Family test must be met and the sponsor must be a permanent resident who is ‘settled’. All applicants must meet the health criteria. As parents get older this can be a problem requiring careful assessment at the application stage.
Depending on the visa, the waiting times can vary from 17 years to two years for the Contributory Parent visa. Not surprisingly, to ‘jump the queue’ the Contributory Parent categories require a large 2nd visa application charge and a ten year bond (financial security).
